We target primary schools in areas of book poverty. We identify book poverty by looking at the school’s FSM (Free School Meal) % and their PPG (Pupil Premium Grant) %. We then look at the catchment area in terms of the IMD (Index Of Multiple Deprivation) %. We then look at the school’s Ofsted report to see if the school has a library. We then make contact with the Head of School and explain what Fair Start does and discuss the school’s current situation and ambitions. If we both feel that there may be an opportunity to help we then set up a face to face meeting. We are looking to have 2 to 3 projects ongoing at anyone time

Priory Fields School in Dover has a pupil roll of 358. It’s Pupil Premium Grant % is 48% and the school is in an area of extreme book poverty. The school has a GOOD at Ofsted. Based in a new building this is a great opportunity to give 350 children and generations to come a love of reading. We have identified a XX space / room for the library. We estimate that we will need a 4000 book library and the total budget for the project is £40,000

Casey Hall Quote

Logistics investment. Fair Start source the majority of it’s books through donations and charity shops. Once sourced the books are sorted and collated. Non fiction by library section and Fiction by Alphabetic Author Name. These books are then stored ready for the next project go live. Until now we have been using a large shed in the back of a Esher Community but we have outgrown that and now need a proper storage facility with shelving and a recording system. The estimated budget for this is £10,000 set up and £10,000 per annum running costs
